Market Overview:
The global shrimp disease diagnostic market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The market is segmented by type, application, and region. The type segment is further divided into WSSV (White Spot Syndrome Virus), TSV (Taura Syndrome Virus), YHV/GAV (Yellow Head/Gill Associated Virus), IHHNV (Infectious Hypodermal and Hematopoietic Virus), HPV (Hepatopancreatic Parvovirus), MBV (Monodon Baculovirus), IMNV(Infectious Myonecrosis virus) and NHP-B Necrotising hepatopancreatitis bacteria). The application segment is divided into fisheries, aquaculture laboratories, marine laboratories, education and research institutes, and others. Region wise the market is divided into North America, Latin America Europe Asia Pacific Middle East & Africa. The growth of the global shrimp disease diagnostic market can be attributed to factors such as rising demand for seafood products due to changing dietary preferences of consumers coupled with increasing awareness about the health benefits of consuming seafood products; growing prevalence of diseases in shrimps; increasing investments by private players in R&D activities for development of novel diagnostics for shrimp diseases; and expanding aquaculture sector globally.
Product Definition:
Shrimps Disease Diagnostic is a method or tool used to identify and diagnose shrimp diseases. It is important for commercial shrimp farmers to be able to accurately identify and diagnose diseases in their shrimp ponds, as this can help them take the necessary steps to treat and prevent outbreaks.
WSSV (White Spot Syndrome Virus):
White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) is a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA)-based virus. It causes white spot disease in crustaceans, such as shrimp and crabs. The disease is characterized by the appearance of small, roundish spots on the carapace of infected crustaceans. These spots are usually located in clusters and they may coalesce to form larger lesions with an umbilical cord-like appearance at the center.
TSV (Taura Syndrome Virus):
TSV (Taura Syndrome Virus) is a single-stranded DNA virus that belongs to the family of Herpesvirus. TSV causes shrimp disease, also known as shrimplike symptoms or disease (SDS), which includes decreased swimming speed, abnormal walking behavior and crawing, head pressing against the aquarium glass in an attempt to get out of water, loss of appetite and eventually death if not treated.
Application Insights:
Aquaculture laboratories held the largest share of the global shrimp disease diagnostic market in 2017. This is owing to a large number of aquafarming activities in Asia Pacific and Africa, which contribute significantly to overall revenue generation. In addition, presence of key manufacturers such as Merck Millipore Corporation and Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., which offer advanced products for diagnosis aids growth further.
The EMS segment is expected to grow at fastest rate during forecast period due to rising incidences of infectious diseases among crustaceans worldwide. The major factors contributing towards high growth are increasing marine pollution along with overfishing & harvesting methods that damage sea grasses & coral reefs causing EMS in shrimps and other species including crabs, lobsters & octopus. Overharvesting has caused depletion in natural resources leading towards increase incidence rates globally resulting into lucrative business opportunities for market players during forecast period (2018-2030).
Regional Analysis:
North America dominated the global shrimp disease diagnostic market in 2017. This can be attributed to the presence of a large number of aquaculture facilities, increase in consumption of seafood, and rising awareness among people pertaining to food safety & hygiene. Asia Pacific is expected to witness lucrative growth over the forecast period owing to increasing awareness regarding diseases prevalent in this region coupled with rapid urbanization and industrialization leading to unhealthy lifestyle changes. Moreover, government initiatives for improving water quality are anticipated favorably impact industry growth over the forecast period.
The European market is also estimated have significant potential due its high prevalence rate towards IMNV along with other factors such as change in climate conditions (hotter summers & colder winters), rise in demand for white spot shrimps from China & Japan which results into spread of infectious diseases within Europe's marine ecosystem thus hampering overall production levels thus resulting into higher prices for consumers ultimately driving regional revenue share during the forecast period.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing shrimp production and trade: The global shrimp production is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.5% from 2016 to 2021, reaching 24.4 million metric tons by 2021. This will create the need for accurate and timely disease diagnosis to maintain the quality of this seafood commodity.
- Rising demand for safe and healthy seafood: The increasing awareness about the health benefits of consuming seafood is driving the demand for safe and healthy shrimps across the globe. This is creating opportunities for growth in the shrimps disease diagnostic market.
- Technological advancements in diagnostics: Rapid technological advancements are taking place in diagnostics, which is aiding in improving accuracy and speed of diagnosis, thus propelling market growth globally . For instance, molecular techniques are being increasingly used for detection of viruses causing diseases in shrimps . Such technological advancements are expected to boost market growth during forecast period . 4) Growing number of aquaculture farms: Aquaculture farming has been gaining popularity as it helps meet rising global demand for seafood products without depleting wild fish stocks.. As a result, there has been an increase in number of shrimp aquaculture farms across regions such as Asia Pacific , North America , Europe , South America etc., which is further fueling demand for shrimps disease diagnostic products/services 5) Stringent food safety regulations: Stringent food safety regulations implemented by governments worldwide are necessitating use of accurate and reliable diagnostic tests/method
