Passive sonar buoy is a device used to measure the depth of water. It consists of an acrylic cylinder filled with oil. As the passive sonar buoy is lowered into the water, it creates a sound wave which travels towards the surface and gets reflected back to our ears. The time taken for this trip depends on various factors such as temperature, salinity, and density of water etc., but generally takes around 1-5 seconds depending upon conditions.
