The product is manufactured by the reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium silicate at pH 11.0 to 12.5 (2% to 5% solution in water), followed by evaporation of the solvent under reduced pressure conditions (approximate yield of 70%).
Acidic Colloidal Silica:
Acidic colloidal silica is a highly hydrophilic polymer with an extensive range of applications. It has high surface area, low molecular weight, and is usually produced by the gelation of a solution containing sodium silicate (sodium metasilicate) and water. The product finds application in various industries including cosmetics & personal care, pharmaceuticals as well as in the food industry for gelling agents.
