This segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6% during the forecast period. The poly-phosphate segment is projected to grow at a CAGR of 4% during the same period.

Global Starter Fertilizer Industry Outlook

Product Definition:

A starter fertilizer is a type of fertilizer that is specifically designed to be used when planting new plants. It typically contains a high concentration of nitrogen, which helps to promote healthy growth in new plants. Starter fertilizers are important because they provide the essential nutrients that young plants need in order to get off to a good start.

Ortho-phosphate:

Ortho-phosphate is a form of phosphoric acid, which is used as a fertilizer. It has the ability to increase the germination rate and seedling growth in plants. Orthophosphates are soluble in water (2g/100 mL) and easily decomposable by soil organisms; it also aids plant growth by increasing the availability of phosphorous to crops through its effect on root development & yield.

Poly-phosphate:

Poly-phosphate is a type of fertilizer which contains two or more phosphorous acid molecules. It has high phosphorus content and can be used for the cultivation of crops like cotton, tea, sugarcane, vegetables and fruits. Poly-phosphates are also used in animal feed to increase the phosphorus content in milk products & meat etc.

Application Insights:

In-furrow application is the most preferred method of using the product as it provides better distribution of nutrients in the soil. In addition, furrow feeding reduces fertilizer burn and increases crop productivity. The in-furrow application also has advantages such as reduced labor costs and time required for feeding. However, there are certain conditions where foliar feedings produce higher yield than in-furrow applications do such as when applied to highly productive fields or when weather is extreme hot or cold.

Fertigation is a slow-paced process compared to other methods of applying fertilizers which involves wrapping fertilized seeds with a layer of protective material before they are scattered on fields.

Regional Analysis:

Europe was the largest regional market in 2017 and is anticipated to witness moderate growth over the forecast period. The region is expected to grow on account of increasing fertilizer consumption owing to rapid urbanization, rising agricultural production, and stringent environmental regulations by various regulatory bodies such as EEA, REACH. In addition, high R&D investment by countries such as U.K., Germany coupled with technological advancements in agriculture machinery are projected to drive the regional market over the forecast period.

Asia Pacific is estimated to be one of the fastest-growing regions from 2018 to 2030 owing its large population base along with rapidly developing economies including China and India which have a strong potential for agriculture development due mainly their vast land area coupled with low cost of production compared other developed regions such as U.S., Australia or New Zealand etc.).

Growth Factors:

  • Increasing demand for food due to population growth
  • Rising awareness about the benefits of using starter fertilizer
  • Government initiatives and subsidies for promoting the use of starter fertilizer
  • Growing popularity of organic farming practices
  • Technological advancements in the production and application of starter fertilizer
