DC drives are used in Step Drives to convert the AC power supplied by the battery into direct current. The DC motor is directly connected to the drive system and does not require an intermediate gearbox like a normal AC motor. This eliminates one of the main components of a step drive, which is its ability to self-propel due to less weight or torque. However, this also results in lower cost and simpler designs compared with AC drives.
AC Drives:
AC drives are used in step drives to convert the electrical energy into mechanical work. Step drive is a type of electric motor that uses AC (alternating current) power to generate torque which can then be used to turn the main shaft. The most common types of step drives include ac motors, vane drivers, and gearbox driven systems.
Theory: Step Drives Work on the basis that when Current flows through Resistor it gets heated up.
