Conventional storage area network (SAN) is a computer storage network that uses Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP) or iSCSI for the internal architecture. The SAN consists of three major components namely, initiator, target and provider. An initiator is an FC/iSCSI-capable device such as a server, workstation or even an array which requests services from target devices present in the provider side of the connection.
