A surface condenser is a type of heat exchanger used to cool water or other fluids. It is usually a horizontal pipe with many small tubes inside it. This warm liquid can then be used to heat buildings, run machinery, or do other useful work.

Regenerative surface condenser is a heat exchanger which uses the natural convection effect to transfer thermal energy from one side to another without any external source of energy. The process does not use any fuel or electricity but rather depends upon the temperature difference between two media. In case of an oil-water mixture, water will be cooler than the oil and as a result it will form a vapor bubble on the cooler side of the condenser tube.
