Product Definition:
A surge protector is an electronic device or a series of devices that are designed to protect electronic equipment from voltage spikes. Voltage spikes can be caused by storms, power outages, or other electrical problems. Surge protectors work by absorbing the excess voltage and then releasing it slowly. This prevents the voltage from damaging the electronics inside the surge protector.
Power SPD:
Power SPD is a new term in the surge protectors market which stands for Power Factor Derating. It's an insurance policy against expensive equipment damage caused by short circuits or overvoltage. The power supply devices such as server, workstation, printer and other peripheral devices need to be equipped with special types of surge protectors known as power conditioners or isolators.
Signal SPD:
Signal SPD is a specification that defines the maximum current that can be safely passed through a product in any single direction. The larger the number, the safer the product as it indicates minimum risk of overheating.
The Signal SPD rating of surge protectors is based on three main factors: cord length, cord type and overall protective device efficiency.
