A synthetic fatliquor is a type of chemical that is used to soften and condition leather. This allows the leather to be more flexible and less likely to crack. Synthetic fatliquors are important because they provide a way to soften and condition leather without using animal fats or oils.

Anionic surfactants are salts or esters of long-chain fatty acids containing an ionic group (R+), usually derived from animal or vegetable oils. They are also known as cationic surfactants. The R groups can be any organic radical, for example, alkyl (C16 to C18) and alkanolamides (C10 to C14).


Cationic:


Cationic surfactants are amphiphilic organic compounds containing both hydrophobic group (tail) and hydrophilic groups (head). The compound is usually made up of alkyl chains. Cationic surfactant can be produced by chemical synthesis or fermentation. It has applications in various end-use industries such as personal care, textile, food & beverage and pharmaceuticals among others.

The clothing application segment led the global market in 2017.
