Liquid TEOS, also known as liquid silicon, is a form of tetraethyl orthosilicate (SiO4). It is a colorless and water-soluble liquid with low viscosity. Liquid TEOS has been used in the production of semiconductors for more than two decades.


Gas TEOS:


Gas TEOS is a silicon-free compound, which can be used as an alternative to SiH4 in the production of semiconductors. It has been under research since 2010 and commercialization since 2016. The compound was first synthesized by researchers at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in collaboration with scientists from Japan's Agency for Natural Resources and Science, JAXA, and other institutes.

The demand for the product in semiconductor industry is expected to be driven by its application in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD). The CVD process uses a silica-based compound as an etchant, which is used to remove the silicon surface. The removal of silicon leaves behind a film of oxide on the substrate, which is then reacted with metals.


TEOS consumption in CVD was estimated at over 1,000 Kgs per day and was valued at USD 2.97 million in 2017 owing to its superior properties such as low volatility and high solubility that make it suitable for use as an etchant during this process.
