Market Overview:
The global toxic gas transmitters market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for safety and security in industrial and environmental applications. The market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, the global toxic gas transmitters market is segmented into electrochemical gas transmitters, infrared gas transmitters, catalytic gas transmitters, and others. Electrochemical gas transmitter dominates the global toxic gas transmitter market due to its high accuracy and reliability in measuring various gases over a wide range of concentrations.
Product Definition:
A toxic gas transmitter is a device used to measure the concentration of a hazardous gas in the air. Toxic gas transmitters are important for safety because they allow workers to monitor the level of hazardous gases in an area and take appropriate steps to protect themselves if necessary.
Electrochemical Gas Transmitters:
Electrochemical gas transmitters are used to send the data on toxic gas concentration in a particular area. They work on an electrochemical principle, which is based on oxidation and reduction of gases. The working principle of these devices is based on the reaction between two electrodes and electrolyte solution.
The device consists of two half-cells, one positive and other negative electrode with an electrolyte solution in between them.
Infrared Gas Transmitters:
Infrared gas transmitters are devices that transfer infrared radiation from a source to the atmosphere in the form of heat and carrier gas. The infrared gas transmitters operate on various sources such as natural gases, hydrogen, kerosene and propane. Infrared Gas Transmitters (IGT) are used for toxic or hazardous material transportation by means of an enclosed container known as a cell.
Application Insights:
The industrial segment dominated the market in terms of revenue share in 2017. The industrial application includes chemical, petroleum and gas, food processing industries. Toxic gases are used for various applications including fumigation, sterilization and venting during production processes. These gases are also used for agricultural purposes such as crop fumigation or to control pests around crops by using a lethal concentration of the gas.
The environmental segment is expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period owing to rising concerns regarding global warming due to increasing greenhouse gasses (GHGs) levels in the atmosphere resulting in climate change issues across all regions globally.
Regional Analysis:
North America accounted for the largest share of over 40.0% in 2017, owing to the presence of a large number of toxic gas transmitters installed across various industries and environmental applications. The region is expected to maintain its dominance during the forecast period due to increasing demand for industrial automation and process control equipment in key end-use sectors such as chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, pulp & paper among others.
Asia Pacific is anticipated to witness significant growth over the forecast period owing to rising installations across industries such as metal processing/ refining/ smelting and cement manufacturing which generate toxic gases on a large scale. Increasing government regulations pertaining with exposure dose are also driving market growth in this region particularly in countries like China and India among others where there has been an increase from 0% (zero) years ago regarding installation of these systems based on employee safety requirements or norms governing exposure limits known as Control Measures Indicative Level (CML).
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for gas detectors in oil and gas industry
- Rising awareness about safety and security among industrial workers
- Growing number of stringent safety regulations across different industries
- Technological advancements in toxic gas transmitters market
- Rising demand from emerging economies
