Market Overview:
The global transient voltage suppressor (TVS) market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.5% from 2018 to 2030. The TVS market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, the TVS market is segmented into uni-polar TVS and bi-polar TVS. The uni-polar TVS segment is expected to dominate the global TVS market in terms of revenue in 2018. This dominance can be attributed to its low manufacturing cost and high efficiency as compared to bi-polar TVs.
Product Definition:
A transient voltage suppressor, or TVS, is a device used to protect electronic equipment from potentially damaging voltage spikes. These spikes can be caused by things like lightning strikes or power outages, and can damage or even destroy electronic components. TVSs are typically placed in series with the component they are protecting in order to shunt any excess voltage away from it. They are important because they can help prevent expensive and often irreparable damage to electronics.
Uni-polar TVS:
Uni-polar TVS is a type of voltage regulator which has one output pin, named as “+” or “-”. The output pin can be connected to any load circuit and it will produce constant voltage irrespective of the input signal level.
The advantage of using this device is that there is no complicated circuitry involved in its operation, and it provides stable regulated power supply to various electronic devices.
Bi-polar TVS:
Bi-polar TVS is a two-polarity power supply. It can provide +12V and -12V output at the same time. Bi-polar technology has been used in electronic devices for many years, but it's only recently that they have become available as low cost consumer products.
Application Insights:
The consumer electronics segment accounted for the largest market share in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The growing demand for smartphones, tablets, laptops and other electronic devices has created a need for efficient power management solutions that can prevent damage caused by high voltage surges. Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) plays an important role in power supply units of various electronic products such as mobile phones, digital cameras, gaming consoles etc. TVS prevents high voltage from damaging sensitive components thereby maintaining device performance during electrical outages or blackouts.
The industrial application segment is projected to witness significant growth over the forecast period owing to increasing demand from major end-use industries such as oil & gas and steel manufacturing etc.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing regional market over the forecast period. The growth can be attributed to increasing disposable income, growing industrialization, and expanding end-use industries in emerging economies such as China and India. Furthermore, rising demand for consumer electronics across these countries will drive the global TVS market in Asia Pacific region.
The Latin American region is also anticipated to witness significant growth over the next eight years owing to rapid economic development coupled with technological advancements in key countries such as Brazil and Mexico. Increasing investments by multinational companies are also driving industry expansion leading to a rise in product adoption across several applications including power supplies, automotive electronics & lighting etc., which will fuel overall regional growth during the forecast period.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for miniaturization in electronic devices
- Growing popularity of electric vehicles
- Proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT)
- Rapid expansion of data centers and cloud infrastructure
- Emergence of new applications such as 5G and autonomous vehicles
