Market Overview:
The global transmission control system market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles across the globe. Additionally, the increasing adoption of advanced technologies in transmission control systems is also contributing to the growth of this market. The global transmission control system market can be segmented on the basis of type into integrated type and stand-alone type. The integrated type segment is expected to hold a major share of this market during the forecast period owing to its advantages such as improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.
Product Definition:
A transmission control system (TCS) is a computer-aided system that controls the operation of an automatic transmission in motor vehicles. The TCS monitors and adjusts various parameters such as engine speed, throttle position, and brake pressure to optimize gear selection and shift points for fuel economy and performance.
Integrated Type:
The integrated type is a new term in the telecommunication industry and it has been gaining significant popularity. It is used to define systems that provide both transmission and switching functions in one device or module. The Integrated Type system provides benefits such as reduced cost, size, power consumption & heat dissipation along with flexibility of operating on any channel bandwidth.
Stand-alone Type:
The stand-alone type is a system that performs only one function and it is independent of other functions performed by the mainframe computer. It can be used for data acquisition, control, measurement & monitoring and as a result; it reduces the overall cost of equipment. Stand-alone systems are widely used in process industries such as petrochemical, oil & gas and power generation plants where there is need to monitor or control processes but notifies no further action needs to be taken.
Application Insights:
The global market is segmented by application into passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle. The commercial vehicles include trucks, buses, coaches and vans. The integrated type of GTCS uses a single control unit for both engine and transmission which enables it to manage multiple functions including safety, security, driver comfort & convenience as well as fuel consumption optimization.
The stand-alone type of GTCS has separate controls for the engine and transmission which simplifies its installation but increases the cost due to additional hardware required. Integration of these systems with various other components such as lighting system; Global Positioning System (GPS); Global Navigation Satellite Systems; On-board Diagnostics (OBD) etc.; will enhance their performance further driving their demand in near future.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific accounted for the largest market share in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The region has been witnessing strong growth in automotive production, sales, and investments. Countries such as China, India, Japan are some of the major manufacturers of passenger vehicles and thus they have a significant impact on regional market dynamics. Furthermore, increasing demand for electric vehicles is also anticipated to drive regional growth over the forecast period.
The European region accounted for a revenue share of more than 20% in 2017 owing to high technological advancements across various industries coupled with increased focus on fuel economy among consumers buying new cars or commercial vehicles such as buses or trucks.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for automobiles
- Growing number of passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles
- Rising adoption of advanced technologies in transmission control systems
- Stringent government regulations for emission control and fuel economy standards
- Growing demand for hybrid and electric vehicles
