Market Overview:
The global transport and industrial vehicles glass market is estimated to be valued at US$ XX Mn in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ XX Mn by 2030, exhibiting a CAGR of X.X%. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for laminated and tempered glass from the passenger cars, commercial vehicle, engineering vehicles, ship, aircraft and high-speed rail segments. On the basis of type, the global transport and industrial vehicles glass market has been segmented into laminated and tempered. The tempered segment is expected to account for a larger share of the market during the forecast period. This can be attributed to its superior properties such as high impact resistance and thermal stability. On the basis of application, the global transport and industrial vehicles glass market has been segmented into passenger cars, commercial vehicle, engineering vehicles (railways), shipbuilding industry,, aircraft industry,,and high-speed rail industry,.
Product Definition:
A type of glass that is often used in vehicle windows and windshields. It is made with a higher level of safety in mind, as it can shatter into small pieces that are less likely to cause serious injuries.
Laminated:
Laminated glass is a type of safety glass that has an added layer of plastic between the layers of regular float and low- Float glasses. The added layer in question here is usually made up from silicone or polyvinyl butyral (PVB) and can also be referred to as laminated safety glass, hybrid laminates, or interlayer glasses.
Tempered:
The glass is tempered to control the amount of heat entering or exiting a vehicle. The process helps in increasing the strength and durability of the product, thus making it suitable for use in windows, mirrors, backlites and other parts that are exposed to harsh environments.
Tempered glass is manufactured by controlled heating and cooling processes that cause small fractures along with chemical treatments to strengthen it.
Application Insights:
Passenger cars accounted for the largest share in 2016 and are projected to witness significant growth over the forecast period. The growing popularity of four-wheelers as a result of increasing disposable income levels coupled with rising employment rates is expected to drive demand for glass in passenger cars.
Commercial vehicles were the second largest application segment and accounted for a market share of 26.3% in 2016 owing to their increasing use across construction, mining, agriculture, forestry and logistics applications. Demand from this application segment is likely to be driven by economic development coupled with industrialization which has resulted in an increased number of commercial vehicles on roads globally over the past few years.
Engineering vehicles include heavy-duty trucks (HDT), medium-duty trucks (MDT) including dry bulk transport, tankers.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The growth of this region can be attributed to increasing production and sales of passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and other transportation equipment. China is one of the largest producers as well as consumers of these vehicles in this region owing to high demand from various end-use industries such as construction, manufacturing, warehousing & distribution centers.
The Asia Pacific economy has been witnessing strong economic growth on account rising disposable income coupled with growing population especially in India & China which are majorly driving the automotive industry across these countries thus creating opportunities for manufacturers across all price categories. Furthermore, favorable government policies encouraging investments from both domestic and foreign players are anticipated to boost regional product demand over the next eight years.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for lightweight and fuel-efficient vehicles
- Growing automotive industry in developing countries
- Rising demand for luxury cars and SUVs
- Proliferation of electric and hybrid vehicles
- Stringent emission norms
