Market Overview:
The global tube and sheet drills market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The growth in this market can be attributed to the increasing demand for tube and sheet drills in construction and industrial manufacturing applications. In terms of type, the less than 20mm segment is expected to grow at a higher CAGR than the other segments during the forecast period. This can be attributed to the growing demand for small-sized tube and sheet drills in various applications such as construction, automotive, aerospace & defense, and others. Geographically, North America is expected to hold a major share of the global tube and sheet drills market during the forecast period followed by Europe.
Product Definition:
A tube drill is a drill designed to create a hole in the wall of a cylindrical object. They are often used in manufacturing to create holes in tubes or pipes, and can also be used for sheet metal work. Tube drills typically have a small diameter, around 1/4 inch (6 mm), and are mounted on a handheld handle. Sheet drills are similar to tube drills but have larger diameters, up to 1 inch (25 mm). They are also mounted on handles but can be clamped onto the workpiece for more stability. Both types of drill can be used with standard twist bits or other cutting tools depending on the application.
Less Than 20mm:
20mm is the smallest drill bit size that can be used in a table top drill press or hand-held drill. It is also known as a microdrill and has been around for decades. The current trend indicates that 20mm bits are being used on an industrial scale to provide rapid production in automotive, electronics, and other industries where high volume of production is required with minimal tooling costs involved.
20-40mm:
20-40mm is a standard drill bit size that is used in sheet and tube drilling operations. The 20-40mm drill bits are available with high speed, high torque motor configurations to provide increased productivity during the drilling operation.
The 20-40 mm drill bit can be utilized for both soft and hard surfaces such as plastic, rubber, glass fiber reinforced plastics (FRP), concrete masonry units (CMU), wood or drywall.
Application Insights:
Construction was the largest application segment in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The construction industry requires a large number of T&S drills as they are used for drilling holes in various materials such as concrete, wood, masonry and steel. Drilling of holes up to 80mm in diameter is done frequently by these machines across all construction activities including residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.
The industrial manufacturing segment held a significant share of the global tube & sheet drills market owing to increasing demand from industries such as metalworking, food processing and chemical for manufacturing purposes. These industries require long-hole-spacing equipment that can be utilized with any type of drill bit ranging from small single-pointed bits to large double or triple ended bits depending upon their requirements at the time of drilling operations.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing regional market over the forecast period. The growth can be attributed to increasing infrastructure activities in countries such as China and India. In addition, rising demand for industrial machinery in these countries is anticipated to drive the product demand over the next eight years.
Europe was estimated to account for a share of more than 30% of total revenue in 2017 on account of high construction spending coupled with growing manufacturing sector across several economies including Germany, Italy, France and U.K., which are major end users of tube and sheet drills at present.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for lightweight and compact drills that offer high performance
- Rising demand from the automotive sector for tube and sheet drills to manufacture precision parts
- Growing popularity of portable drilling machines among DIY enthusiasts and professionals
- Technological advancements in drill bit design that improve drilling accuracy and speed
- Rising investments in manufacturing sectors across the globe, which is expected to drive the demand for tube and sheet drills
