Market Overview:
The global tube hydroforming market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for lightweight and fuel-efficient vehicles, rising investments in oil & gas exploration and production activities, and growing demand for advanced materials in aerospace applications. The aluminum segment is expected to account for the largest share of the global tube hydroforming market in 2018, followed by brass, stainless steel, low alloy steel, and other segments. The automotive application segment is expected to account for the largest share of the global tube hydroforming market in 2018. However, the oil & gas application segment is projected to grow at a higher CAGR during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030.
Product Definition:
Tube hydroforming is a manufacturing process used to form tubes or pipes from metal sheets. It is a type of deep drawing where the sheet metal is first pierced by a die and then drawn over a mandrel to create the desired shape. Tube hydroforming can be used to produce tubes with complex shapes that would be difficult or impossible to make using other methods. The process can also produce tubes with very thin walls, which makes it ideal for use in applications where weight savings are important.
Aluminum:
Aluminum is a metal and has the chemical symbol Al. It is a silvery-white transition metal with a high content of magnesium and zinc. Aluminum’s physical properties have made it useful in the production of lightweight, strong, durable products that are used across various industries including transportation, building & construction, consumer goods as well as industrial machinery.
Brass:
Brass is a copper-zinc alloy and consists of around 80% copper and 20% zinc. It offers excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, hardness, and ductility. The material has been used in hydroforming applications owing to its superior properties such as high tensile strength & low elongation at breakage which makes it suitable for use in tubes that are subject to stress & strain during the forming process.
Application Insights:
The automotive application segment led the global tube hydroforming market in 2017 and is projected to witness significant growth over the forecast period. The rising demand for lightweight vehicles to improve fuel efficiency is expected to drive the automotive industry, thereby augmenting product demand. In addition, increasing sales of electric vehicles are anticipated to further propel industry expansion over the coming years.
Aerospace was another prominent segment that accounted for a substantial share in 2017 owing to growing concerns regarding aircraft weight and balance issues during take-off and landing operations. Moreover, increasing utilization of composites in aerospace components such as primary wing spars and leading edges is expected fuel industry expansion over next few years. Growing defense expenditure across various countries including U.S.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing regional market with a CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 owing to rapid industrialization and increasing per capita income in emerging economies, such as China and India. In addition, rising investments in infrastructure development are likely to drive demand for tube hydroforming over the forecast period.
Europe was the second-largest regional market in 2017 on account of high product demand from major end-use industries, such as automotive and aerospace. The presence of major automobile manufacturers including Volkswagen Group; BMW Group; Mercedes Benz AG; Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V.; Ford Motor Company Europe GmbH & Co., Ltd.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for lightweight and fuel-efficient vehicles
- Growing automotive sector in developing countries
- Rising popularity of hydroformed parts in passenger cars and commercial vehicles
- Technological advancements in tube hydroforming equipment and processes
- Growing demand for customized components
