The turning instead of grinding type is used to reduce the size or change the shape of a part. It's done by using a lathe, which is an instrument that can turn on a lathe axis and produce two rotating surfaces. The workpiece being turned is mounted on the spindle and as it's spun around, it receives cuts parallel to its length. These cuts form alternate angles with respect to the original piece, producing two pieces out of one item.
Combined with Turning and Grinding Type:
The turning and grinding type is used in the vertical turning and grinding centers. The machine consists of fixed or rotating spindle, which is mounted on a shaft. It has multiple cutting tools mounted on it, through which feed material can be passed for performing several operations such as cutting, facing, gear cutting or face milling etc.
