Market Overview:
The global water-based resins market is estimated to be valued at US$ XX Mn in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ XX Mn by 2030, exhibiting a CAGR of X.X% during the forecast period. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for bio-based water-based resins across various applications. Based on type, the global water-based resins market has been segmented into fossil based, synthetic based and bio based segments. The synthetic based segment is expected to account for a major share of the global water-based resins market during the forecast period owing to its properties such as high thermal stability and chemical resistance. However, the bio based segment is projected to grow at a higher CAGR due its environmental benefits over other types of water-based resin products. On basis of application, candles accounted for majority share of revenue generated from sales of waterborne resin in 2017 followed by packaging and coatings & polishing applications respectively. Waterborne resin are extensively used in manufacturing candles owing properties such as low smoke emission and non –toxicity which make them safe for human use . In addition , growing demand from end use industries such as cosmetics & personal care , food processing etc are anticipated propel growth prospects for this application category over next few years . Regionally , North America was observed as largest consumer base forWater borne Resin followed by Europe .
Product Definition:
Water-based resins are a type of resin that is made up of water and other organic materials. These resins are important because they can be used to create adhesives, coatings, and sealants. They can also be used as a binder in composite materials.
Fossil Based:
Fossil-based chemicals are the by-products of organic evolution. Fossil fuels include coal, petroleum, and natural gas. These fossil fuels were formed over millions of years ago from plants and animals that died and were buried under layers of sediment.
Synthetic Based:
Synthetic-based water-based resins are a group of chemicals that are used as a substitute for the natural resin found in plants. They can be produced from petrochemicals or non-petrochemical sources. The most common synthetic resin is polyethylene which is derived from ethylene, one of the derivatives of crude oil.
Other types include styrene butadiene.
Application Insights:
Packaging emerged as the leading application segment and accounted for over 40% of the global revenue share in 2017. The product is widely used in packaging applications such as corrugated boxes, paper cups, food containers, plastic bottles and others on account of its excellent barrier properties. These resins are also used to produce laminated boards which are further utilized in several end-use industries including construction materials, furniture and paneling etc.
Candles were another significant application segment accounting for a share of 29% in 2017 owing to increasing demand from various end-use industries including aromatherapy massage centers among others. Water based resin candles have an advantage over their counterparts regarding environment safety owing to no toxic emissions during production or combustion process which makes them eco-friendly products overall.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific was the leading revenue contributor in the global water-based resins market in 2016. The region is expected to maintain its position through 2030 on account of increasing construction spending along with growing automotive industry. In addition, rising population coupled with rapid urbanization has resulted in increased demand for personal care products and candles which are further anticipated to drive product demand over the forecast period.
North America emerged as a major consumer of water-based resins owing to high consumption from end use industries such as packaging, coatings & polishing, hot melt adhesives and tires & rubber applications. Rising environmental concerns have led consumers across this region towards sustainable packaging solutions that do not involve using plastic materials that deplete quickly into the earth's crust thereby driving product growth over the next eight years.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand from end-use industries such as construction, automotive and furniture owing to the properties of water-based resins such as low toxicity, environmental friendliness and non-flammability.
- Rising awareness about the benefits of using water-based resins over solvent based resins among consumers is expected to fuel the market growth.
- Growing demand for green products across various industries is projected to boost the market growth in near future.
- Technological advancements in manufacturing process of waterborne resin is anticipated to offer lucrative opportunities for market players in coming years
