A hand-held anemometer is a device used to measure wind speed. It can be used to measure the wind speed either in still air or in moving air.


Cup Anemometers:


Cup anemometers are used to measure the volume of liquid in a cup placed at a fixed position. It is one of the most basic and commonly used instrument for measuring wind speed. The cup anemometer consists of two cups, one containing the fluid and other being attached to a flexible hose which can be lowered into it by means of a tap or valve.


Vane Anemometers:


A vanes anemometer is a device used to measure the wind speed. It consists of two blades, connected by a flexible diaphragm. As the wind passes through the blades, it creates pressure fluctuations that are proportional to its velocity. The ratio of these pressures is used to calculate the wind speed using Ohm's law (VxI=P).
