  1. The IFS system is a suspension system that uses two control arms, one on each side of the vehicle, to locate the wheel and provide lateral stability.
  2. The IFS system is used in most modern passenger cars and light trucks because it provides better handling than a traditional live axle design.
  3. The IFS system was first introduced by Mercedes-Benz in their W201 190E model in 1982, but it was not until the 1990s that other manufacturers began to adopt this design for their vehicles as well.
  4. In recent years, many manufacturers have begun to use an advanced version of the IFS called "double wishbone" which has two control arms on each side of the vehicle instead of just one like with a traditional single wishbone suspension design; this allows for more precise tuning and improved handling characteristics over previous designs such as MacPherson strut suspensions or double A-arm suspensions which are also used on some vehicles today.

One downside to using an IFS is that it can be more expensive than other suspension systems because it requires additional parts such as ball joints and tie rods which are not needed with other types of suspensions; however, these costs can be offset by increased fuel efficiency due to less weight being carried by the front wheels when compared with live axle designs.
