Product Definition:


Industrial grade zirconium is a purified form of the metal zirconium. It has a very low level of impurities and is used in various industrial applications. One important use is in the production of nuclear fuel rods, where it helps to stabilize the uranium fuel pellets. Industrial grade zirconium can also be used in other types of reactors, as well as in aircraft and spacecraft parts.


Sponge Zirconium:


Sponge zirconium is a special type of zirconium, which has been modified by the addition of sponges ( porous and non-porous) in its structure. Sponge zirconium shows similar properties like regular solid ZrO2, but it is much more porous than normal solid material. The pore size can be controlled by changing the ratio of feed materials such as sand and water or other chemicals.


Others:


Others is the generic name for all other minerals and metals that are produced along with zirconium. The others mineralogies mainly include ilmenite, rutile, leuco dolostone, gold, silver and platinum. Others minerals have high demand in various end-use industries such as construction materials (furniture & decorative), electronic equipment and automotive industry.


Application Insights:


The chemical industry accounted for the largest share of over 50% in 2017. In addition to this, it finds application as an active material in various chemicals such as polymers and resins.


ZrO2 has excellent resistance against acids and bases; its purity level ensures that it can be used directly in manufacturing of various chemicals without any further purification process. It also exhibits high thermal stability (up to 1150°C) along with good corrosion resistance (up to 1100°C).
