Direct process is a method of producing zinc hydroxide which involves the chemical reaction between zinc and hydrochloric acid. The most commonly used direct process for industrial production of zinc hydroxide is the Solvay Process which involves two steps, namely, reduction of nitric acid (HNO3) and then hydrolysis to produce H2ZnOH & HCl.


Indirect Process:


The indirect process is a chemical procedure for manufacturing zinc hydroxide which involves two reactions. The first reaction involves the oxidation of zinc with oxygen and the second one is an electrolytic cell involving hydrogen and zinc oxide. This method provides several advantages such as it can be used in both small & large scale operations, it has high operating efficiency, low energy consumption & waste production, easy installation & maintenance along with flexibility to use different chemicals as raw materials according to requirements.
