Market Overview:
The global inorganic zinc chemicals market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The growth of this market can be attributed to the increasing demand for zinc oxide, zinc sulfate, and other inorganic zinc chemicals from various end-use industries such as agriculture and animal husbandry, food and pharmaceutical industry, rubber/tires, ceramic/glass, and chemical industry. In addition, the growing demand for these chemicals from developing countries is also contributing to the growth of this market. However, volatility in prices of raw materials used in manufacturing these chemicals may restrain the growth of this market during the forecast period. On basis on type segmentation , Zinc Oxide accounted for major share followed by Zinc Sulfate . On basis on application segmentation , Agriculture & Animal Husbandry was observed as dominant application area with highest share followed by Food & Pharmaceutical Industry .
Product Definition:
Inorganic zinc chemicals are those that contain the element zinc in an inorganic form. Zinc is a metal that is found naturally in the earth's crust and it has a range of uses in industry. Inorganic zinc chemicals are used to make alloys, batteries, pigments and other products. They are also used as catalysts and corrosion inhibitors. The importance of these chemicals lies in their ability to impart certain properties to products they are used in, such as strength, hardness or resistance to corrosion.
Zinc Oxide:
Zinc oxide is a chemical compound, which contains zinc and oxygen. It has white powder form, which is tasteless and odorless. Zinc oxide can be produced by thermal decomposition or hydro-reduction of zinc metal in an atmosphere of air or other gas mixture. It finds application as a protective coating for galvanized steel in the construction industry owing to its high resistance to oxidation and low cost compared to pure zinc metal.
Zinc Sulfate:
Zinc sulfate is a chemical compound of zinc and sulfur. It has a strong smell similar to that of rotten eggs. Zinc sulfate can be prepared by the reaction between zinc dust and sulfuric acid or by the chlorination of zine (a formaldehyde solution). The commercial product consists of an orange-red solid, which is very soluble in water; it dissolves completely in dilute hydrochloric acid as well as in concentrated nitric acid.
Application Insights:
The application segment includes agriculture and animal Husbandry, food and pharmaceutical industry, rubber/tire manufacturing, ceramic/glass manufacturing, chemical industry. The demand for inorganic zinc chemicals in the agricultural sector is expected to witness growth owing to its wide applications such as fungicides and insecticides. In addition, it is used as a feed additive for poultry farming due to high nutritional value coupled with low cost.
In the food processing industry; it¢â‚¬â„¢s major use is as an acid regulator or preservative agent. It has a significant role in wine making process where it acts as a yeast nutrient by enhancing fermentation speed and stabilizing pH balance of must which helps prevent oxidation of alcohol produced during winemaking process.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global inorganic zinc chemicals market and accounted for over 45% of the total revenue share in 2016. The region is expected to witness significant growth on account of increasing demand from end-use industries, such as agriculture, food and pharmaceuticals, ceramics/glass, chemical manufacturing. China is projected to be a key consumer owing to its rapidly expanding construction industry coupled with robust industrial production output.
Europe was the second largest regional segment accounting for 24% of total revenue share in 2016 due to high consumption levels from major end-use sectors including agrochemicals and ceramics/glass.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand from end-use industries such as construction, automotive and electrical & electronics
- Growing awareness about the benefits of inorganic zinc chemicals among consumers
- Rising investments by key players in research and development to develop new products
- Expansion of distribution networks by manufacturers to cater to the growing demand for inorganic zinc chemicals globally
- Growing popularity of inorganic zinc chemicals as a green and sustainable alternative to conventional materials
