IO-Link is a standardized communication interface for industrial automation. It allows the linking of field devices and sensors with controllers, HMIs or PCs. IO-Link enables fast and reliable data exchange between devices, while reducing wiring costs.
Sensor:
Sensor is an electronic device that responds to a physical phenomenon and converts it into electrical signals. There are two types of sensors, namely mechanical and thermal. A mechanical sensor is used to measure position, pressure, motion or force whereas a thermal sensor measures temperature. The IO-Link devices use the concept of IR LEDS for sensing the presence and type of objects in proximity to each other as well as detecting obstacles along the route by using light detection sensors (LDS).
Actuator:
An actuator is a mechanical device used to create motion or effect in electric circuits. Actuators are extensively used in control systems of machines and devices for carrying out various operations such as opening and closing of valves, changing the position of pistons, etc. The most commonly used actuators are DC (direct current) motors, Servo motors, pneumatic/ hydraulic motors and steam turbines.
IO-Link devices require two types of sensors namelyactuator sensor.
