Market Overview:
The global isoprene monomer market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for isoprene monomer from various applications such as IR, SIS, IIR and fine chemicals. Additionally, the growing demand for rubber products across the globe is also propelling the growth of this market. On basis of type, polymerization grade accounted for majority share in 2017 and it is projected to maintain its dominance during forecast period. This can be attributed to its properties such as high reactivity and better performance than chemical grade products.
Product Definition:
Isoprene is a colorless or light yellow liquid hydrocarbon having the formula C5H8. It is the simplest example of a cycloalkane. Isoprene is used to make polyisoprene, which is used for synthetic rubber.
Polymerization Grade:
Polymerization grade is also known as high purity polymerization grade. It's a special type of polymers that are manufactured by using very high quality raw materials such as ethylene, alpha-olefins and catalysts. The most important factor that differentiates it from other types of grades is its extremely low level of impurities or contaminants.
Chemical Grade:
Chemical grade isoprene monomer is a colorless liquid with an odor similar to gasoline. It has a molecular weight of 142.2 and boiling point of -42°C. Isoprene monomer (IM) is manufactured by the polymerization process of synthetic rubber using olefin as a raw material which contains one molecule of oxygen and two molecules of hydrogen.
Application Insights:
The global isoprene monomer (IR) market was valued at USD 1.96 billion in 2017 and is expected to witness significant growth on account of its wide application scope in the manufacturing of inflatable rubber products such as tires, tubes, flimsies and others. The growing demand for these products in the automotive industry on account of increasing consumer disposable income coupled with rising vehicle sales will drive the demand for IR globally over the forecast period.
SIS applications dominated the overall industry accounting for a volume share of 33.3% in 2017 owing to its usage as an adhesive and sealant across several end-use industries including construction & building materials, marine & transportation among others.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific was the dominant regional market in 2017 and accounted for over 45% of the global revenue share. The region is also expected to be the fastest-growing market at an estimated CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 owing to increasing product demand from various application segments, such as automotive, construction, packaging and others.
The presence of a large number of automobile manufacturers in Asia Pacific has resulted in high product consumption across this region. For instance, Toyota Motor Corporation consumed around 1 million tons per year for its motor vehicle manufacturing operations across several plants located in Japan and Thailand between 2013 and 2016.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for isoprene monomer in the automotive and tire industries due to its properties such as resistance to heat, ozone, and weathering.
- Rising demand from the construction industry for use in roofing membranes, insulation materials, and sealants.
- Growing use of isoprene monomer in medical applications such as adhesives, coatings, elastomers, and implants.
- Increasing popularity of isoprene monomer as a green alternative to traditional petroleum-based polymers.
