Laparoscope is a flexible, hollow instrument that is inserted into the abdominal cavity through the mouth and nose. The laparoscope was first used in 1731 by an Italian physician named Matteo Grisoni for examination of pelvis during surgery.

The insufflation device is used to fill the abdominal cavity with carbon dioxide prior to performing a laparoscopic procedure. The insufflation device consists of a cannula connected to an air compressor. The pressure in the cannula can be increased or decreased as per requirement by means of control valves attached to it.
