The product was developed by Dow Chemical Company for use in their Mid-Life crisis (MLC) polyethylene products, which were later commercialized as DOWEX and DOPROCELLS brands.
mHDPE:
Methyl Hexane Di-isocyanate (mHDPE) is a clear, water-soluble liquid with an odor similar to that of fresh paint. It has a molecular weight of 132 and the formula is C6H4(O)2. mHDPE is manufactured by reacting hexane with phosgene in the presence of sodium methoxide as a catalyst at 130°C for 4 hours under pressure.
