Product Definition:


Methylal is a colorless, flammable liquid with a pungent odor. It is used as an industrial solvent and as an additive in gasoline to reduce knocking.


Superior Grade:


Superior grade is the purest form of methylal. It’s a natural organic compound and it’s also used as an intermediate in the production of many chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, and vitamins. Methylal is produced during the process of refining sugar into granular sugar syrup or white sugar. During this process, crystals are formed which contain purest form of methylal (H3dal).


Refined Grade:


Refined grade is a high purity form of Methylal. It has very less impurities and consistence will be like water. Refined grade is used in methylation process for production of methanol and dimethyl ether (DME).


Methanol, which is produced by the reaction between carbon monoxide and methanol, which in turn gets converted to formaldehyde then hydroformylation takes place to produce DME.


Application Insights:


The global methylal market is segmented based on application into solvents, polymers, fuel additives and others. The other applications include pharmaceuticals and food additives. Solvent manufacturing was the largest application segment in 2017 accounting for over 40% of the total demand owing to high demand from cleaning agents used in various industries such as oil & gas, chemical among others.
