Market Overview:
Microbial herbicides are the biopesticides that control the weed growth by using the living microorganisms. The global microbial herbicides market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, it is classified into Altemariaaltemata, Drechsleraa venacea, and other. On the basis of application, it is classified into vegetables, fruit crops sorghum wheat and others. Region wise, it is analyzed across North America Latin America Europe Asia Pacific and Middle East & Africa. The global microbial herbicides market was valued at US$ XX Mn in 2017 and projected to grow at a CAGR of XX% during 2018-2030 to reach a value of US$XX Mn by 2030 end.
Product Definition:
Microbial herbicides are those that are derived from or produced by microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi. These products can be used to control weeds in a variety of settings, including agricultural fields, home gardens, and green spaces. Microbial herbicides can be an important tool for weed management because they often have low toxicity to people and other animals, they can generally be used without causing environmental damage, and they often have a long shelf life.
Altemariaaltemata:
Altemariaaltemata is a plant pathogen. It belongs to the family Apiaceae, and genus Altemaria. The scientific name of this plant is Altemaria lappacea var.lappacea (L.) Handel & G.-K., subsp.lappacea (L.) Handel & G.-K., and altemarlei Hulten ex Steudel, combretaceæ Lindl., and Rydb.).
Drechsleraa venacea:
Drechsleraavenacea is a plant pathogen. It attacks and damages the leaves, needles, and galls of various coniferous trees. The damage caused by this fungus to the host tree is known as drechslering or drechsleriasis. This disease was first observed in 1770 in Sweden where it damaged pine trees which are now called pine wilt disease (PWD).
Application Insights:
Vegetables held the largest revenue share of over 40.0% in 2017. The demand for vegetables is generally higher in summer than winter, which can be attributed to a rise in per capita consumption of food products prepared from scratch as opposed to dining out or eating at home. This trend is expected to continue over the forecast period, thereby driving product demand.
The fruit segment followed the vegetables segment and accounted for a revenue share of around 19% in 2017 due largely to increased use of herbicides specific for fruits and crops such as citrus fruits, pomegranates, apples and grapes among others grown on a large scale across various regions globally including North America and Europe.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017. The region is expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period owing to rising demand for food and feed, coupled with increasing agricultural activities. China accounted for a major share of the regional market on account of its large-scale production and export of fruit, vegetable, cereal, and oilseed crops. In addition, factors such as growing population along with rapid urbanization have increased agricultural land availability in this region which will drive product demand further.
Europe is anticipated to be one of the promising markets during the forecast period owing to strict regulations regarding use of pesticides that are harmful to human health as well as environment; stringent laws have driven farmers toward using safer alternatives such as microbial products for crop protection purposes across various countries within this region including Spain Italy France Germany etc., thus driving industry growth significantly.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for organic food products: The global market for organic food is projected to grow at a CAGR of more than 14% from 2016 to 2021. This growth is driven by the increasing awareness about the benefits of organic foods, such as improved nutrition and health, and environmental sustainability. Microbial herbicides are used in organic farming to control weeds without using synthetic herbicides, which makes them an attractive option for growers looking to produce organically certified crops.
- Rising demand for sustainable agricultural practices: Sustainable agriculture is defined as an approach that aims to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It involves using resources in a way that reduces negative environmental impacts and enhances soil fertility and biodiversity. Microbial herbicides are considered a sustainable alternative to synthetic herbicides, as they are biodegradable and do not leave residues on crops or soil.
- Growing popularity of Integrated Pest Management (IPM): IPM is an approach to pest management that combines multiple methods – including cultural controls, mechanical controls, biological controls, and chemical controls – into one comprehensive program designed to reduce pests while minimizing damage done by pesticides. Microbial herbicides are often used as part of an IPM program because they offer a non-toxic alternativeto synthetic pesticides for controlling weeds..
