Purity 98% is a colorless liquid with a mild odor. It is insoluble in water and has an oily texture. Purity 98% can be produced by the double decomposition of chloroacetic acid, which gives rise to isopropylidene chloride and chlorobenzene.
It can also be produced by the reaction of nitrobenzene and hydrogen cyanide at high pressure.
