A pendulum impact tester is a device used to measure the impact resistance of a material. The device consists of a weight attached to the end of a swinging arm. The specimen is usually placed in an oven or on a hot plate, which has controls set at different temperatures.


The normal and low temperatures used for automatic control are dependent upon the material being tested; glass can withstand high heat while some plastics melt at relatively low temperatures.
