Market Overview:
The global petroleum liquid feedstocks market is estimated to be valued at US$ XX Mn in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ XX Mn by 2030, exhibiting a CAGR of X.X% during the forecast period. The growth of the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for aromatics and petrochemicals from various end-use industries. Additionally, the growing demand for naphtha as a fuel source is also expected to propel the growth of this market over the forecast period. On basis of type, gas-oil accounted for a major share of the global petroleum liquid feedstocks market in 2017 and is anticipated to maintain its dominance throughoutthe forecast period.
Product Definition:
Petroleum Liquid Feedstocks are hydrocarbons that can be used as a feedstock for the production of petrochemicals. They include both crude oil and refined products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, and jet fuel. The use of Petroleum Liquid Feedstocks is important because it allows for the production of a wide range of petrochemicals which are used in many industries.
Naphtha:
Naphtha, also known as aliphatic liquid or straight-run gasoline, is a type of petroleum liquid feedstock. It is a hydrocarbon mixture that consists of alkanes and naphthenes with the general formula CnH2n. The most commonly used naphtha in industrial applications has an API gravity between 30 and 45 with a boiling range from 100°C to 156°C.
Gas-Oil:
Gas-oil is a mixture of natural gas and oil. It is formed by the simple compression of gases in an underground reservoir. The main components of gas-oil are nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methane and oxygen. Nitrogen makes up around 78% to 83% percent by volume while hydrogen makes up about 18 % to 22%. The rest percentage comprises various other gases such as argon, carbon monoxide and others which are present in lesser quantities compared to the above four.
Application Insights:
The petrochemical industry segment accounted for the largest market share in 2017 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of XX% over the forecast period. The growth can be attributed to increasing demand for plastics from various end-use industries, including automotive, construction and packaging. Petrochemical products such as polyethylene, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether acetate (MBE), propylene carbonate (PC) and butadiene are manufactured using petroleum liquid feedstocks as raw materials.
Increasing use of aromatics in the manufacturing of diesel fuel & gasoline is expected to drive product demand over the forecast period.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The region has witnessed a significant rise in production of various petroleum products, such as gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene & other similar fuels used for industrial applications including domestic heating and lighting. In addition, growing automotive industry coupled with rapid urbanization across emerging economies of India and China are likely to drive product demand over the next eight years.
The Asia Pacific was followed by Europe which accounted for approximately 25% of total market volume share in 2017 owing to rising product demand from petrochemical industry on account of increasing chemical manufacturing activities across major countries such as Germany, France Italy Russia & U.K.
North America is projected to witness substantial growth over the forecast period owing to high consumption levels from aromatics sector primarily due to extensive shale gas exploration taking place across U.S.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for petroleum liquid feedstocks from the chemical and petrochemical industries for production of various chemicals and plastics.
- Growing demand for transportation fuels such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel which is expected to drive the growth of the market.
- Rising investments in refinery infrastructure by governments and private players across the globe is anticipated to boost the market growth over the forecast period.
- Stringent environmental regulations pertaining to emissions from refineries are likely to propel adoption of petroleum liquid feedstocks as a preferable option over traditional fuels such as coal and natural gas in coming years.
