Product Definition:

A SERS substrate is a material that enhances the Raman signal of molecules adsorbed to its surface. The enhancement is due to the presence of metal nanoparticles on the substrate surface. Gold is a chemical element, which has the highest electronegative atomic number of 19. It is soft and ductile with high electrical conductivity. Gold has been used as an alloying agent in SERS substrates for many years; however, its usage was limited to specific applications such as electroplating and soldering until recently when it was found that gold salts can be used as a base material for SERS technology.


Silver is a chemical element with the symbol Ag and atomic number 47. It is a soft, ductile, silver-white metal. Its salts, compounds, and oxides are called silver salts (AgNO3), compounds (Ag2CO3), and oxides (AgO), respectively. Silver has two main isotopes: Aurum metallicum or gold-bronze; and argentium edtio or lead-bronze.
