Silica is an important reinforcing agent for S-SBR. It improves the rubber's resistance to abrasion and helps to prolong its service life.


Treated Silica:


Treated silica is a special type of silicon dioxide, which has been processed to form an insoluble compound with the help of chemical or enzymatic treatment. The major sources include fumed and precipitated silica; however, other sources include thermal decomposition of polyacrylamide gel and hydrolysis of cross-linked carboxymethyl guar.


Untreated Silica:


untreated silica is a major raw material used for manufacturing S-SBR. It is commercially available in two grades, namely, precipitated and fumed. The grade of untreated silica depends on the method of preparation which can be as dry or wet process. The most commonly used source for producing S-SBR is precipitated type which has higher purity and yield than fumed type.
