Cypermethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid with insecticide properties. It was first synthesized in the laboratories of Dr. Robertet in France, by reacting 3-methyl4-phenylpiperazine with nitrobenzene (a derivative of phenol) and then hydrogenation of the product obtained gave rise to cypermethrin.
