6N, also known as trimethylaluminum, is a chemical compound of aluminum and nitrogen. It has a triple bond between the central nitrogen atom and the second carbon atom from the end. The molecule has three hydroxide groups (–OH) that can form six anions (6+). 6N compounds are highly reactive with oxidizing agents such as nitric acid or peroxides.
6.5N:
6.5N is a special grade of trimethylaluminium which has about 90% of methylaluminate by weight. It is used as an additive to gasoline to increase octane rating and reduce air pollution in the exhaust gas. Methylaluminate (MA) increases the rate of combustion and reduces harmful emissions from automobiles, especially when added in high concentrations (more than 10% by volume).
