Market Overview:
The global turbine inlet cooling system market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for electricity and rising concerns over climate change. The market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, the global turbine inlet cooling system market is segmented into inlet fogging, chiller system, evaporative cooling, and others. In terms of application, the market is divided into CT plant industry and others. Geographically speaking, North America leads the global turbine inlet cooling system with a share of 38%, followed by Europe with 28%. Asia Pacific holds third place with a share of 23%. Latin America has 4% share while Middle East & Africa has 7%.
Product Definition:
The turbine inlet cooling system is a component of the gas turbine engine that helps maintain the temperature of the air entering the engine. The air is cooled by spraying it with water, which reduces its temperature and increases its density. This makes it possible for the engine to produce more power while using less fuel.
Inlet Fogging:
Inlet fogging is a process in which water or some other fluid is injected into the combustion chamber of a gas turbine to cool the air before it passes through the blades. The fluid acts as an insulator and prevents hot gases from expanding, cooling down and entering into liquid state. Inlet Fogging system works on similar principal but instead of using water or any other fluids it uses oil.
Chiller System:
The chiller system is used to cool the turbine exhaust gases at low temperatures. The cooling effect minimizes the formation of condensation and thus avoids any damage to the blades due to water droplets. It also helps in maintaining optimum efficiency of turbines, thereby reducing maintenance costs.
Application Insights:
The others application segment includes power plants, chemical processing facilities and petrochemical units. The demand for turbine inlet cooling systems is expected to witness a growth owing to the expansion of power generation capacity at various sites across the world. In addition, increasing use of gas turbines as an alternative source of energy has resulted in increased demand over the recent past.
The CT plant segment accounted for a significant share within the global market owing to its usage at numerous coal-fired power plants across China and India along with other countries such as South Africa and Indonesia that have yet to make any substantial progress towards adopting cleaner sources of energy due to political reasons or otherwise known as Lack Of Political Will (LOW).
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing regional market with a CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 owing to the presence of large nuclear power plants in countries, such as China and India. In addition, increasing investments in nuclear power plant construction by countries such as South Korea and Japan are driving the demand for turbine inlet cooling systems over the forecast period.
The Middle East & Africa is anticipated to witness significant growth over the next eight years owing to an increase in electricity demand due rising population coupled with rapid economic development across several Middle Eastern countries including UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt among others. Moreover, ongoing projects related expansion of oil & gas facilities are likely boost product demand over this period.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for electricity due to population growth and industrialization
- Stringent environmental regulations for power plants
- Development of new technologies and products that can improve the performance of turbine inlet cooling systems
- Growing demand from emerging markets such as China and India
- Expansion of the global installed base of gas-fired power plants
