Sealed twin-screw pump is used in applications that require high flow at low head or vice versa; for instance, it is used to transfer oil from one place to another in an engine where high pressure is required at the bottom end but low pressure exists at the top end.
Non-sealed Twin-Screw Pump:
A twin-screw pump is a mechanical device used to move fluid. It consists of two identical impellers mounted facing each other and joined by a common shaft. The working fluids are transferred from one side of the pump to the other through an orifice using centrifugal force. Twin-screw pumps can be used for both liquids as well as gases, however they are primarily utilized for transferring liquid because they have greater volumetric efficiency than their counterparts i.e.
