Market Overview:
The global wind energy equipment market is expected to grow at a CAGR of XX% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for clean and renewable energy sources across the globe. Additionally, government initiatives and regulations supporting the installation of wind turbines are also contributing to the growth of this market. The global wind energy equipment market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, it is divided into self-supporting (free-standing) tower and guyed tower segments. The self-supporting (free-standing) tower segment held a major share in 2017 owing to its low installation cost as compared to other types of towers. However, with technological advancements in guyed towers such as use of composite materials for construction, this segment is expected to witness high growth during the forecast period. On the basis of application, it is classified into industrial use, residential use, and other applications segments. Industrial use accounted for a major share in 2017 due to rising demand from manufacturing industries across regions such as North America and Europe . However , with increasing awareness about benefits offered by wind turbines for residential applications such as reduction in electricity bills , this segment is projectedto grow at a higher CAGR duringthe forecast period .
Product Definition:
Wind energy equipment is machinery used to convert kinetic energy from the wind into mechanical or electrical energy. Wind turbines, for example, use blades to capture the wind's kinetic energy and convert it into rotational shaft power. This power can then be used to generate electricity or perform other tasks such as pumping water or grinding grain. Wind turbines are an important source of renewable electricity and are becoming increasingly popular in locations where there is significant potential for harnessing wind power.
Self-Supporting (Free-Standing) Tower:
Self-Supporting Tower (SST) is a type of wind turbine which does not require any support from the ground for its' operation. It consists of main rotor, hub, and blades. The tower is fixed with the help of cranes or by ropes to the main rotor during its' installation process.
Guyed Tower:
A guyed tower is a type of utility pole that has one or more supporting arms connected by a steel tube or cables to the main part of the pole. The wind energy equipment consists of rotors which are mounted on these towers and they create wind energy by using this tower as an axis. These types of towers are used in offshore locations for installing wind turbines which are very much helpful in producing electricity from the renewable source of energy, i.e., from the wind.
Application Insights:
The industrial use segment dominated the global wind energy equipment market in 2017, accounting for over 71.0% share of the total revenue. The growth of this application segment is attributed to the growing demand for electricity generation from wind turbines in order to power manufacturing and other industrial facilities. Furthermore, governments are investing significantly in order to establish a robust infrastructure supporting the development of offshore and onshore wind energy projects across various regions including Europe, Asia Pacific and North America.
The residential sector is expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period owing to increasing government support towards installation of rooftop solar systems coupled with rising awareness about clean renewable sources such as wind turbine installations at home or at a place of business. In addition, growing concerns regarding high electricity costs along with an increase in disposable income levels among certain demographics have led them towards adopting cleaner sources such as renewable energy that can be used directly by consumers without any additional cost or expenditure incurred on their part.
Regional Analysis:
The wind energy equipment market in the Asia Pacific region is anticipated to grow at a rapid pace over the forecast period. The growth can be attributed to increasing government support for wind power projects, rising awareness about renewable energy, and growing need for clean electricity generation. China accounted for more than 50% of total installations in 2016 and is expected to continue its dominance over the next eight years. In addition, India has set an ambitious target of installing 175 GW capacity by 2022 through various policies such as “Housing For All†scheme and “Atal Mission Verification Of Accomplishment (AMVAC)†scheme.
North America was one of the largest regional markets with respect to installation volume owing to high levels of public acceptance towards green technologies such as wind farms & turbines coupled with relatively higher level of consciousness regarding climate change issues compared to other regions across the globe.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for electricity due to population growth and industrialization in emerging economies
- Government policies and regulations supporting the development of wind energy infrastructure
- Reduction in the cost of wind energy equipment due to technological advancements and economies of scale
- Growing awareness about the benefits of renewable energy sources among consumers and businesses
- Expansion of global trade in wind energy equipment
