The 3 core is a type of cross-linked polyethylene insulated cable, which has three wires running in a single direction. It is widely used for power transmission and distribution applications. The 3 core cross-linked PE insulated cable consists of an inner layer of PE insulation surrounding three wires; the outer jacket or sheath is made from PVC or HDPE plastic with metalized coating on the outside surface.
