Product Definition:
Geothermal energy is a renewable resource that comes from the earth's heat. It can be used to generate electricity and to heat buildings. Geothermal energy is important because it is a clean, renewable resource that does not produce emissions like other forms of energy production.
Single Flash:
Single flash is a method to generate electricity which involves the use of only one explosive charge to create an intense heat pulse. The generated heat is used for generating electricity. This technology has been around for more than a century and was widely used in the past, especially during coal mining operations.
Double Flash:
Double flash is a method to stimulate geothermal wells by sending two jets of water at different times. The first jet of water sends steam and pressure into the well, which opens up pathways for hot groundwater to come up to the surface. This process is called as primary stimulation or open-hole drilling.
The second jet of water, which is sent after 15 - 60 seconds, has high pressure and temperature (around 200°C).
Application Insights:
The others application segment includes power generation for direct use in the grid, heating and cooling applications. The commercial application segment accounted for over 50% of the total market revenue in 2017. Increasing number of hotels, restaurants and shopping malls using geothermal energy to heat or cool their facilities is expected to drive the demand over the forecast period.
Industrial was estimated as one of the largest application segments with a share of around 30% in 2017 owing to its wide scope across various industries such as oil & gas, mining, water treatment etc. Rapid urbanization coupled with rising living standards has led to an increase in industrial activities resulting into increased electricity requirement which has positively impacted geothermal energy usage across various industries worldwide.
