Product Definition:


O-Xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon with the molecular formula C6H4(CH3)2. It is a colorless liquid that is slightly soluble in water and has a sweet odor. It is used as a solvent and in the production of plastics, resins, and other chemicals.


Phthalic Anhydride (PAN):


O-Xylene is a colorless liquid that is miscible in water and other organic solvents. It has a strong odor similar to that of gasoline. Owing to its chemical properties, it is used as an intermediate for manufacturing various chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, and pharmaceutical drugs among others.


Alkyd Resins:


Alkyd resins are synthetic thermosetting polymers containing alkyd groups. They are produced by the reaction of a polymer with an alkaline catalyst and contain at least one primary amine group. The most common types of alkyd resins include acrylic, styrene-butadiene, acryloyl, and epoxy resin.


Application Insights:


Paints was the largest application segment and accounted for a market share of over 35% in terms of revenue in 2017. O-Xylene is used as an additive to improve adhesion, hardness, and glossiness of paints. It is also used as a reactant in the preparation of pigments for use in paints.
