Product Definition:
A photo resistor is a type of resistor that varies its resistance in response to light. It is made of a material that exhibits photoconductivity, such as cadmium sulfide (CdS), selenium (Se), or mercury cadmium telluride (HgCdTe). When no light falls on the resistor, its resistance is high; when light falls on it, the resistance drops. Cadmium sulfide (CdS) is a chemical compound of cadmium, sulfur and selenium. It is produced by the reaction between sulfur and selenium dioxide in the presence of calcium sulfate or calcium carbonate as a catalyst. Cadmium Sulfide has applications in semiconductors, electronic components such as transistors & resistors, infrared radiation filters for optical fibers & windows, etc.
Lead sulfide material:
Lead sulfide material is used in photoresistive devices as it exhibits high resistance to photo-oxidation. It also has low dark current and good uniformity of response. The product finds application in a wide range of semiconductor devices such as transistors, diodes, integrated circuits (IC), and solar cells.
