Paraffins (P): These contain mostly waxy properties and have high heat & chemical resistance. Owing to these characteristics they find application in the automotive industry for fuel efficiency purposes, where it is used as a anti-knocking agent to reduce engine knocking.


Hydroflurocarbon (HFC):


Hydroflurocarbon is a group of compounds with similar properties. They are used as blowing agents in polyurethane foam production.


1) Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were previously used for this purpose but due to their depleting atmospheric chlorine, they have been phased out and replaced by hydrofluorocarbon (HFCs).

PU foam is widely used for insulation purposes in buildings owing to its excellent thermal resistance properties. It can also be used to fill voids, add strength, and provide thermal barrier to a building structure.
